FreeNameAStar.com is an amusement of Keith P. Graham.

I used the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory (SAO) star inventory, which I sorted by magnitude. I loaded this into a database and calculated the other factors. I give stars away in a first come first serve order so the earliest registrants get the brightest stars. Stars with a magnitude of 6 or less are considered visible, although they might not be easy to see near cities with hazy skies and light pollution. I have identified about 7500 visible stars and the database has currently about 50,000 stars.

As of October, 2007 I have registered 15,000 stars. I expect to register twice this in the next year.
